I was previously teaching Kindergarten. I taught Kindergarten for 3 years. While I loved Kindergarten, I wanted to teach more independent students. I recently transferred to a school 5 minutes away from my house to be closer to my family. Some of you already know that I have 3 boys: 16, 10, & 1 1/2. My drive to work was about 35 - 45 minutes with no traffic and well over an hour with traffic. I was losing too much quality time with my family. In August, I will be teaching 3rd grade. I am really excited to make the transition.
One of the things that I really love about teaching science is STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics). We had a STEM program implemented in our school where the students were Engineers for a Day. I really enjoyed those days. It allowed the students to work in groups, independently, with no teacher involved. I was there just to facilitate. I learned a lot about my students, their thought processes, leadership skills, and group working skills. Also, teaching Science I finally learned how to plant a flower and actually see it sprout. I have a major black thumb, so learning how to plant for the sake of my students, really helped me to grow a semi-green thumb and that is a great accomplishment for me.
One interesting thing about me is my mind has to remain busy. I am ALWAYS multi-tasking. If I am watching TV, I am usually working on my computer simultaneously. If I am working in my classroom, there has to be background music. If I am sleeping, there is a major dream happening. I just realized this about myself. I have to keep my mind in motion. It is exhausting but I don't know another way.
Thanks for taking the time to read about me. I hope you enjoyed my introduction!
